Britain is a funny place. Miserable…but funny. In its own unique way. Pinning down what exactly is British Humour is no easy task. Somewhere, somehow, Burtonwode connects with that fine mysterious tradition. Not in a Benny Hill, titties and chasing women around and around kind of way (although that also has its place)…or even a David Brent cringe-worthy self depreciating way (well…perhaps sometimes)…but hopefully in a Blackadder/Count Arther Strongs Radio Show tongue in cheek, sometimes a little bawdy but able to be appreciated on a few different levels kind of way. Hopefully.
Without doubt Count Arthur is the finest radio accompaniment to any journey…long or short…and if your not familiar with his work…go and buy the series cd’s…you will not be disappointed I promise you. On my last visit to his live show I bought a signed sausage ( I kid you not). It sits in a glass case on my mantelpiece ( I am kidding you here though).
I hear you asking (figuratively) how does the Burtonwode relate to humour. Well…as I’m from Liverpool and a Jew….its genetically coded into the lifeblood of the brand. It just happens. Jewish British humour. Not much of that around you may think. Well look closely and the names become apparent, from Maureen Lipman (love BT) to Sacha Baron Cohen and Simon Amstell (can we give you David Baddeil back please). As for Liverpool. Kenny Everett, Craig Charles and John Bishop to name a few…..but the undoubted King of Liverpool (not just of comedy) is Kenn Dodd. More of him I’m sure sooner rather than later.
All of the above happily winds its way into the Burtonwode brand. I dont like to give the game away too much…but the Einstein print…he’s a clever dick and a smarty pants. The packagaing…pears, plums and cherries get it??!!
All in all they’re pants. Quality pants. Sexy pants maybe. Sartorial….but underwear non the less…and if you cant have a bit of a joke about underwear well then “butter my arse” (Partridge).
To celebrate and cement Burtonwode jumping onto a comendy bandwagon…we’re doing 100 jokes in 100 days on twitter. Just look up #100jokes or foller me twitter.com/Burtonwode @burtonwode (its on the homepage). We are already upto number 43 I’m afraid…but fear not…just scroll through…its well worth it.
I’ll leave you with my favorite joke of all time. Its a Doddy Classic.
“Hear about the shrimp that went to the Cocktail party? Pulled a Muscle”!!!!
