I’m rarely in the West End, but when I am I always used to enjoy a trip to 9 Albermarle St, where the remarkable Paul Smith Furniture and assorted expensive niceties shop was located. The shop ever failed to amaze.
The shop was full of folly and irreverence. My favorite piece I recall from there was a large round table with magnificent inlay depicting a Circus. Truly a wonder. Sadly the shop was too expensive to run merely as a storage place for for the weird and wonderful.
So I must admit to have been extremely satisfied upon my return to the store. The next door shop had been purchased and knocked through, now allowing for a double space of both mens and womenswear. Although not as focused on furniture and housewares anymore….there are still examples of the bright and bold that Paul Smith is so well known for scattered around the shop, including re-upholstered Modernist chairs and chairs inlaid with 17th Century Characters (details posted).
Above is a little selection of modified photos that I hope give a flavour of the verve vigour and vibrancy that the shop, the furniture and the clothes. So next time your in Mayfair…don’t miss out!
